The Rug Company presents Metamorphosis, a new collection of rug designs by the Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
Metamorphosis is a decorative selection of rugs inspired by flora and fauna. From the subtle outlines of petals and butterfly wings, to the more literal depiction of leopards, birds and otherworldly creatures.
Nature is Healing
Since Their first collaboration in 2010, each collection between The Rug Company and Alexander McQueen has been bound by an appreciation of nature and its magical ability. Metamorphosis is no different, exploring themes of folklore, wishing trees and the importance of restoration and renewal.
Glasswings
Handcrafted entirely in silk, Glasswings features a centralized pair of butterfly wings, highlighted in eau de Nil. Accents of silver and gold shimmer across the design, creating a translucent illusion. Delicate, but strong, this area rug will stand as a feature of its own.
Beetle
Beetle features an up-close abstraction of an elytron, a central motif to the house of McQueen and an age-old symbol of luxury. Handwoven in a fusion of wool and silk, bold monochrome tones radiate with the lustre of silk, illuminating the appearance of a hard glossy wing.
Painted Lady
Characterised by its bold and vibrant design, Painted Lady depicts a butterfly in flight. Crafted in wool and silk, the rich hues are elevated by the lustre of silk, while the blended texture adds depth, resulting in a grounded, but elegant form.
Crown Blossom
Alexander McQueen’s creative storytelling ability has been captured through the two celestial cranes, united in a flurry of feathers and framed by elegant silk cherry blossom. The base of the Crown Blossom rug is crafted in soft wool, while the delicate birds are woven in pure silk thread.
Tree of Life
A universal symbol of growth, the tree motif is designed symmetrically, with a mirrored effect between roots and leaves, depicting the organic quality of evolution. Inspired by Celtic Clootie trees and Cornish Tregellas, the design has been woven on wool background with a silk motif.
A Union of Craft and Community
Renowned for her imaginative approach to craftsmanship, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen has united with The Rug Company to explore exquisite fabrication and honoured technique. As the expression goes, it takes a village to create something wonderful and these designs have been passed by hand, through some of the most impressive communities in the world to create a collection that symbolises hope and rejuvenation.
